A Little About
The Barrile Lab.

We work at the intersection of disease ecology, population demography, and animal behavior, often employing data science techniques to provide evidence-based solutions to conservation challenges. We also study disturbance ecology, particularly how natural and anthropogenic disturbances influence host-pathogen dynamics. Our research incorporates many taxonomic groups, from fish to frogs to finches to furry critters. Ultimately, our research aims to directly inform species conservation and management. Please see the 'Research' page for more details.

We care deeply about students. One of our main goals is to facilitate student growth, both personally and professionally. Lab members mostly teach ecology and statistics courses, but we've led social awareness courses as well. Further, we strive to make all course materials freely available whenever possible. Thus, we often record videos and post lectures and code online, such that anyone can access the material. Please see the 'Teaching' page for more information and resources.

We are committed to enhancing a sense of belonging in STEM fields for all. We believe that creating a positive workplace climate is a key first step in attracting, retaining, and genuinely supporting people from various backgrounds in the field of ecology. Please see the 'Service' page for more information on these efforts.

Our research, teaching, and service work involves partnering with many entities, including state/federal agencies, non-profits and NGOs, private businesses, and university partners. Please contact us if you are interested in collaborating on a project. We would love to work with you!
